Hi,

I'm Rubert Quintana, a Cuban artist residing in Miami. My work is contemporary with social content and a touch of humor. If you want to know more and stay updated on my latest projects, please contact me or simply follow me on...

Biography

I was born on June 27, 1975, in Holguín, Cuba, and began my artistic training in 1997 at the El Alba Visual Arts Academy, where I learned classical representation techniques and acquired the necessary tools to develop a body of work with a coherent and updated artistic discourse. Later, I specialized in artistic and industrial graphics, as well as photography.

In 2000, I entered the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana, where I refined my skills in graphic techniques, interacting with prominent artists and participating in biennials and international exhibitions. Being part of Grupo Enema had a profound impact on my career, both in my creative and investigative work and in the opportunity to participate in significant events and connect with influential artists.

My work, conceptual and satirical in nature, addresses controversial social issues related to power, freedom, and values, which placed me in direct opposition to the Castro regime. Because of this, I faced obstacles, including difficulties graduating in 2005 and imposed restrictions that limited my artistic growth.

In 2010, Basic Rhetoric was my last solo exhibition on the Island. Alongside my openly anti-dictatorial work, I engaged in political activities that culminated in the dissolution of the Young Artists Association union in Holguín. This resulted in my expulsion from all artistic institutions and ultimately in my forced departure from Cuba to the United States in December 2016, where I am now rebuilding my career.

Currently, I work as a visual artist, restorer, and art handler in the Miami and Broward areas, primarily collaborating with museums, artistic projects, and galleries. Additionally, I am developing my artistic practice with the goal of expanding my work and consolidating my presence in the contemporary art scene.

Artistic Influences

Although I identify with various artists and movements in some works, my main influences come from pop art, conceptualism, and post-conceptualism. The artists who have had the most significant impact on my work include Andy Warhol, Jenny Holzer, and Barbara Kruger.

Current Projects

I am currently working on multiple sculptural and mural projects while simultaneously expanding my artistic work into fashion. I am integrating my art into wearable pieces such as t-shirts, hats, and bags, using these items as a medium to spread and popularize my work.

Additionally, I am creating a digital channel on YouTube dedicated to art criticism, documentation, and analysis of artworks. Through this platform, I aim to explain fundamental aspects of the creative process and provide a broader perspective on contemporary art and its impact.
